2014-11-19 | In LA – NARIP Music Supervisor Session -w- Trailer Park’s Bobby Gumm (Gravity, Frozen, Godzilla)
×
Intimate Meeting & Pitch Session With Trailer Park’s Bobby Gumm on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 Note this session starts at 7:30 p.m. DETAILS Bobby Gumm is our special guest at this NARIP Trailer Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch them for current opportunities. Trailers – which represents a large part of Gumm’s client work – have skyrocketed in recent years as an important and lucrative vehicle for music licensing. Synch fees for music in trailers tend to be larger because the rights requested tend to be more broad (worldwide, in perpetuity, used in every possible media). Also, trailers are typically part of a film’s marketing budget rather than its music budget, with film marketing budgets almost always many times larger than music budgets. One senior music executive at Fox Studios says that the music budget for a film is rarely larger than 3% of its overall budget, if that. ABOUT BOBBY GUMM Bobby Gumm is a Vice President at Trailer Park, one of the largest and most prolific ad agencies in the world, where he oversees all things music. With almost a decade of music supervision experience Gumm has supervised hundreds of trailers/campaigns and has spoken internationally on the subject. Some of his more recent highlights include trailers for Interstellar, Horrible Bosses 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Gravity, Frozen, Godzilla, The Great Gatsby and Iron Man 3. Also, Bobby placed music from one NARIP session participant in a trailer for the Warner Bros. Film Grudge Match starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. Come meet this career-maker. ALMOST 200 PLACEMENTS FROM NARIP MUSIC SUPERVISOR SESSIONS Our small format works! NARIP Session Participants have placed almost 200 tracks as a direct result of NARIP Sessions, most recently in a nationwide Vodafone campaign. Read more here. DON’T GET LOST IN THE CROWD : SMALL IS THE NEW BIG NARIP Sessions are deliberately kept small, which is why they work so well and why participants have enjoyed almost 200 placements. 2015-04-01 | In LA – NARIP Music Supervisor Session -w- Ant Farm’s Brian Murphy (Hunger Games, Wolf of Wall Street, Call of Duty)
×
Intimate Meeting & Pitch Session With Ant Farm’s Brian Murphy on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 DETAILS Brian Murphy is our special guest at this NARIP Trailer Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch them for current opportunities. Trailers have skyrocketed in recent years as an important and lucrative vehicle for music licensing. ABOUT BRIAN MURPHY Brian Murphy is a music supervisor at Ant Farm, one of the industry’s foremost film and theatrical marketing agencies, where he spends his days (and some nights) selecting music for some of the industry’s biggest blockbusters and global marketing campaigns as well as for independent projects. After graduating from Manhattan College he moved west to work at Mojo LLC, a successful trailer house, where he assisted and learned from two well respected music supervisors on major theatrical campaigns such as Harry Potter, Crazy Stupid Love, SuckerPunch, Green Lantern and Hunger Games among others. He moved to Ant Farm where he now works on campaigns for theatrical, TV promotional spots and video games. Recent campaigns include Transformers, American Hustle, Wolf of Wall Street, Taken 3, The Gambler, Anchorman, Edge Of Tomorrow & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Recent video game campaigns include Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed, Call Of Duty and Watch Dogs. He enjoys placing major and indie artists in projects like Laggies, Star Trek Into the Darkness, Serena, Davinci’s Demons, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Call Of Duty: Ghosts. In his off hours he enjoys drawing, hanging out with friends and going to the movies. Come meet this career-maker. OVER 200 PLACEMENTS FROM NARIP MUSIC SUPERVISOR SESSIONS Our small format works! ABOUT THE SPEAKER Julianne Jordan Julianne Jordan started her music supervision career with a bang when director Doug Liman brought her to a little independent movie called Swingers. The film ignited the “swing” craze in the 90s, spawned a new type of vernacular, and pushed the interest in retro swing music into hyper drive. The soundtrack went gold and Julianne has not stopped working since. Julianne has enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with Doug Liman on all of the films he directed, including Go, The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and most recently Fair Game. Julianne has also supervised such hit films as The Italian Job, Valentine’s Day, Red and Yogi Bear. Julianne’s latest movie is the CGI animated Hop for Universal. She is currently at work on her second Garry Marshall collaboration, New Year’s Eve. In 2007, Julianne supervised the blockbuster family film Alvin and the Chipmunks, where she lent her expertise in helping create an entirely new soundtrack with songs featuring that world-recognized chipmunk sound. Alvin and the Chipmunks is a certified platinum soundtrack. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, which she also supervised, is well on its way to platinum status as well. Julianne is currently serving on the board of governors of the NARAS LA Chapter. She also had the distinction of winning the first Music Supervisor of The Year Award given by the Guild of Music Supervisors in 2011. ABOUT THE SPEAKER Gary Calamar, Go Music Services Gary Calamar, president of Go Music, is a Grammy-nominated producer and music supervisor for his work on HBO’s “Six Feet Under.” He is currently overseeing the music on some of the most acclaimed and popular shows on television: “True Blood” (HBO), “House” (Fox), and “Dexter” (Showtime). Gary has also chosen the songs for the films “Varsity Blues,” for which he received a gold record, “Slums Of Beverly Hills” and the forthcoming release “I Love You Philip Morris”. Gary hosts a hit radio show every Sunday night on public radio powerhouse KCRW in Santa Monica. Gary’s unique brand of “adventurous pop music both timely and timeless” has been a favorite of listeners for over a decade. Gary’s book, Record Store Days (with Phil Gallo) about the rise and fall of The Record Store will be released on Record Store Day, April 2010 from Sterling Publishing. The first light young Mr. Calamar saw was on a Westinghouse Capri TV set. He was vaccinated with a phonograph needle. Born in the shadows of Yankee Stadium in the Bronx NY, Gary first found his passions lit when his parents took him to see “West Side Story”. By the time “A Hard Days Night” and “Goldfinger” came out he was hooked on the explosive combination of Movies and Music. He traveled west in the early 80’s landing in Los Angeles. In need of a job that would ensure him a steady flow of promotional records and free concert tickets, Gary stepped behind a cash register and worked retail. He was managing a Licorice Pizza Record store as 12 inch vinyl records turned into 5 inch digital discs and later moved on to Rhino Records mixing with the customers and building up his music collection. In the mid 90’s Gary started as a volunteer at National Public Radio’s influential powerhouse KCRW. After (literally) getting down on his knees and begging music director Chris Douridas for a radio show he was given a shot. Gary’s unique brand of “adventurous pop music both timely and timeless” proved to be a hit. His show “The Open Road” currently airs Sunday nights from 9-Midnight. Through the years Gary has hosted live performances and interviews with musical greats ranging from Brian Wilson and Elmer Bernstein to Wilco, Lucinda Williams, and The Flaming Lips. In 1998 Gary broke into the Music Supervision game and tackled the movie “Varsity Blues”, resulting in a #1 box office hit and a soundtrack album certified gold. At the turn of the century Gary, along with friend and fellow music supervisor Thomas Golubic´ oversaw the music for the HBO original series “Six Feet Under” and were nominated for Grammy Awards for producing both volumes of the ‘Six Feet Under’ soundtracks. He lives in a lovely home in Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon with his lovely wife and their amazing daughter. SOURCES FOR MORE INFO Gary Calmar NARIP Get connected. Stay connected. What do P.J. Bloom, Carolyn Richardson, Gary Calamar, Julianne Jordan, Andrea von Foerster and John Houlihan have in common? They are all special guests at NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions launching April 7, 2011 at SAE Institute in Hollywood, CA. Representing the best and brightest in music supervision, these six seasoned executives select and place music in blockbuster films and hit television shows, and in NARIP’s intimate sessions, you get to meet and pitch them for current opportunities. Placement is the new radio. Come meet these career-makers. BACKGROUND NARIP President Tess Taylor is regularly retained by a private European music organization to secure meetings with top music supervisors in Los Angeles for its members. Placements secured and professional relationships formed through these meetings are so good that we felt this format would work well for those who represent catalogues and/or seek intimate pitch opportunities with the best (and busiest) music supervisors in town. Limited to 15 people, NARIP’s sessions enable you to get to know the supervisors and more importantly, enable music supervisors to get to know you. At private sessions in 2010, Alicen Schneider needed a theme song for a game show (Minute To Win It) and Gary Calamar needed a title song for an MTV series. At another session, Carolyn Richardson needed a theme song for a television project. Participants were able to pitch for these opportunities on the spot, receiving instant feedback as to whether a song was appropriate or not, and WHY. This valuable feedback makes better pitches – and ultimately, placements – possible. In some cases, participants even had time to re-work their music to better fit the supervisors’ needs. Above all, attendees MET key players in the modern music business, paving the way for future opportunities and giving them an edge in a highly competitive market. At each session, participants will have the opportunity to pitch music for specific opportunities and get immediate feedback from one music supervisor. PER-SESSION COST $249 NARIP Members (Professional and Executive NARIP Members ONLY*) $329 Non-Members REGISTER FOR ALL SIX SESSIONS $1,329 for NARIP Members (save $165 – Professional and Executive NARIP Members ONLY*) $1,819 for Non-Members (save $155) * Available to Professional and Executive NARIP Members only.

NARIP Film & TV Music Supervisor Pitch Sessionwith Freeform’s (Disney) Matt Mugfordin Los Angeles on Thu Jan 9, 2020This event is SOLD OUTCall 818-769-7007 to be wait-listedIntimate Pitch Meetings with Top Music SupervisorsAlmost 2,000 Placements and 19 Signings Result From NARIP Pitch SessionsA NARIP Series: Intimate Pitch Meetings with Top Music Buyers including Music Supervisors, A&R Executives, Synch Agents & Music Producers
Is your music getting to decision-makers – people who can say YES and write a check?
At NARIP’s intimate sessions, you get to meet music buyers including A&R executives, music supervisors, synch agents and music producers and pitch for current placement opportunities, representation, and projects, and get immediate feedback.
BACKGROUND
Since 2011, NARIP Music Supervisor Pitch Sessions have secured almost 2,000 placements in blockbuster films, hit television series, global promotion and advertising campaigns, and major studio trailers for NARIP members. Since inception of NARIP’s Synch Agent Pitch Sessions in 2018, 17 NARIP members have signed representation or music publishing deals as a direct result. Other outcomes include collaborations, co-writing, producing and commissioned work.
At NARIP’s Music Supervisor Pitch Session:
NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions are limited to an enrollment of just 16 people. About one week prior to NARIP’s Session, all registrants will get a brief of the guest supervisor’s then-CURRENT music needs. Each registrant will have a chance to pitch in response to the music briefs provided and get immediate feedback to music pitched. Each participant must submit 7 songs (MP3s only please) 36 hours prior to NARIP’s Music Supervisor Session. Please note that due to time constraints you will only be able to pitch your TOP 3 songs for consideration and immediate feedback (more, if time permits). This process takes the mystery out of why a piece of music does or doesn’t fit. On-the-spot feedback enables registrants to re-work tracks and re-submit, which creates a much higher probability to get them licensed (choose well!). If you do not have music that matches the current needs of the supervisor, fear not! You can still attend and present the top three songs in your catalog. Make sure the songs are unique and captivating. This is helpful because a music supervisor’s needs change constantly. To optimize impact of music you pitch at NARIP’s Music Supervisor Session, we highly recommend that you target the briefs. Good luck and see you there! BEFORE NARIP’S PITCH SESSION:
DON’T GET LOST IN THE CROWD: SMALL IS THE NEW BIG
NARIP Sessions are deliberately kept small and intimate, which is just one reason they work so well and why participants have enjoyed almost 2,000 placements to date. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees that registrants meet and get face-time with our guest.
Almost 2,000 PLACEMENTS FROM NARIP MUSIC SUPERVISOR SESSIONS
Our small format works! NARIP Session participants have placed almost 2,000 tracks as a direct result of NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions. Other benefits include new publishing deals for NARIP members, creative collaborations and co-writes, strategic introductions to other music supervisors and placement experts, new representation for composers and much more.
NARIP’S BIGGEST PLACEMENT TO DATE : VODAFONE
Click here to read about NARIP’s biggest placement to date in a Vodafone campaign (Oct 2014) that paid handsomely and launched a career. Other brand placements include McDonalds and AT&T ads, among many others.
